Prepare for more weirdness and thought-provoking anthology stories, folks! That’s right, unsurprisingly, Netflix has renewed Black Mirror for season 7. The Charlie Brooker-created series wrapped up its sixth run in July, which featured Salma Hayek, Michael Cera, Aaron Paul, Zazie Beetz, and more.
While the popular streamer has been known for giving shows the axe in recent years, this has become a flagship series on the platform. When season 6 dropped, it stayed in the top ten most-watched English-speaking shows for four weeks. It also spent time in the top ten on the streaming service for 92 total countries.
Black Mirror Set to Return After Netflix Renewed It for Season 7
The news about the show coming back for another run comes from Variety. Right now, not much is known about the series. No actors have been publically attached, but it does have a cast, as it is set to go into production by the end of the year. Brooker, Annabel Jones, and Jessica Rhodes are set to return as executive producers.
Every season has had a different number of episodes. The amount we will receive, including the plots, is currently under wraps. Looking at previous seasons of Black Mirror, there is no indication how many episodes there will be for season 7. Season 6 had five episodes, season 5 had three, season 3 and 4 had six, season 2 had four, and the debut season had three episodes.
While the series had always taken a few years in between seasons, the gap between the last two was longer than expected. Brooker and Jones left their previous production company, House of Tomorrow, in 2020. Endemol Shine supports House of Tomorrow and held the rights to the anthology series while the creative leads started Broke and Bones at Netflix. After Endemol was acquired by Banijay Group in 2020, a deal was struck to license the series to Netflix. Now, with those complications out of the way, we should not have to wait as long for Black Mirror season 7.
