Black Myth: Wukong might be getting its first DLC expansion at the beginning of 2025. The news comes from a video game industry consultant in China, Daniel Camilo, who confirmed that Game Science plans to release a major expansion for the game, just in time for the Chinese New Year, which starts at the end of January next year.
This means that the DLC for Black Myth: Wukong should come out sometime around January 29, 2025. Camilo says that they got the news from first-hand sources who work at Game Science, who confirmed that the expansion is coming with the Chinese New Year, or sometime soon after.
When this reveal gained some traction, he took to X (formerly Twitter) and said that it wasn’t out of the question that it would be delayed. While the internal plans and roadmap line up with the end of January, they aren’t set in stone and are subject to change.
Even though DLC for Black Myth: Wukong hasn’t officially been revealed, Hero Games, the investor of Game Science, did tell Bloomberg that some sort of an expansion with additional content was being worked on after the game’s explosive release.
Since August 20, the release date of Black Myth: Wukong, the game has sold over 20 million copies on the PlayStation 5 and PC. This kind of success is rare to see, and it ended up becoming the number one single-player game with the highest number of concurrent players.
The budget for Wukong was a staggering $70 million, but it went far beyond that and ended up earning well over $800 million since its release. This makes it one of the fastest-selling games of all time, but it is still overshadowed by the likes of GTAV.
Game Science confirmed in June that the Xbox version of Black Myth: Wukong was delayed indefinitely due to quality concerns. Black Myth: Wukong is available on PlayStation 5 and PC only for now.
