A woman working in New York has recently accused her Hispanic coworkers, including a Dominican chef, of repeatedly harassing and insulting her in the kitchen. In her TikTok video, she said she had been bullied for over a month as the only Black woman in her workplace and claimed the mistreatment went beyond casual disrespect. According to her, the chef in particular had made her uncomfortable with unwanted advances. He had constantly flirted with her, asked her to hang out, and made comments about her being a “great wife” if she moved back to Florida, where he was from. She eventually complained to a supervisor about the chef, and he received a write-up.
However, things didn’t get better after that. In her video, which can be viewed at the link provided, the woman revealed that she had secretly recorded a conversation her coworkers were having in Spanish, which she later had translated by a Dominican acquaintance. The recording allegedly captured the chef mocking her appearance and using derogatory language. She added that the conversation was spoken openly while she was working in the kitchen. “I knew they had been talking about me for weeks, but something told me to record that day,” she explained, adding that she had dealt with constant ostracism from her coworkers.
The woman also said the environment made her feel excluded because she did not “look like them” or share the same cultural background. In her words, she had only wanted to show up and do her job, but the hostility became unbearable. “Today’s the last day that I’m working there and I’m going to blast the chef by putting that [expletive] on in the kitchen speaker,” she announced before ending the video.
What People Are Saying About the Racism Claim Made by the New York Woman
Many people in the comments section sympathized with her. “I’m so sorry you had to go through that,” one user wrote. A second person commented, “I’m sorry this happened to you. I pray you work in an environment where you are respected, and treated with dignity and integrity!!!” A third added, “This has been going on in the DR for a while, but just an FYI not every single Hispanic is racist. You shouldn’t have went through all that.”
Some commenters who claimed they were Dominican apologized for her experience. “As a Dominican, I am genuinely so sorry 🥲 the racism is so prevalent,” one admitted, explaining how anti-Black prejudice has long existed in families. Another person said, “As a Dominican I’m sorry you had that experience. There is a lot of racism in DR too against Black Dominicans.”
Another group of netizens were especially worried about her safety. “Women aren’t safe anywhere because you report him again bc he still there. What if he takes that report and rejection in a violent way? Please be safe,” one viewer urged, suggesting she consider whether the job was worth the risk. Another recommended, “Please file with the Department of Labor for the harassment and a separate one with EEOC.”
