One of the major issues with Call of Duty has been the cheaters for a long time now, but, Treyarch may have found the key to keep their game on the top spot. Well, on consoles, that is. The crossplay button was added to the game since Black Ops 6 and Warzone Season 2 on Ranked Play mode, and the feature has boosted the game to remain on top with the most active users on consoles. Meanwhile, over on PC, the iconic shooter has significantly lost its momentum on Steam.
The data comes from analytics site Circana and it’s been corroborated by Charlie Intel that Call of Duty is right now in the #1 spot of games with the most active users on PlayStation and Xbox. The chart below shows the top 15 games with the most active users in the first week of February 2025:

The first thing to note is that it reads Call of Duty HQ so it includes MW2, MW3, Black Ops 6, and Warzone. Fortnite is singlehandedly on the second spot, and no, Marvel Rivals with all its glory is not even in the top 3 on either PS or Xbox. On the other side of things, however, Black Ops 6 and Warzone are both way down the list on Steam in contrast to consoles.
Here, Marvel Rivals is in the #1 spot, and CS2 being a Counter-Strike game, is sitting in second place. While PlayStation’s Helldivers II has no place on the PS ranking of this week, it’s the third game with the most active players on Steam, and for Call of Duty, well, it has fallen to the #15 spot. Well done, cheaters.
This has everything to do with the issues this game has on PC like the sudden crashes that are driving me crazy. However, the most important of them all is about cheaters running their own show in the game, especially on Ranked Play lobbies where players sweat for higher spots. So when Treyarch introduced the Crossplay option for players to turn off being pitted against the PC players, it seems like it’s affected the game more than we thought.
It’s worth mentioning that this isn’t all the PC players as a whole, as this data focuses on Steam users. Importantly, there are two other ways to play Black Ops 6 and Warzone on PC via the Game Pass and Battle.Net launcher, which likely wouldn’t be counted in this data. And with PC Game Pass having a lower price tag than Ultimate, it could’ve drawn a fair chunk of players.
