On. Oct. 7, BLACKPINK’s Jennie gave fans a behind-the-scenes look at her “You & Me” dance performance video by sharing photos and videos from the set on Instagram. In most of her posts, Jennie dons a short red dress with matching leg warmers and platform shoes. She also has her hair styled in cute pigtails as she poses against her video’s moon backdrop.
The singer’s look appears to be inspired by the popular anime and manga series Sailor Moon. On Oct. 6, Jennie unveiled her “You & Me” official cover art, which was made by Sailor Moon creator Naoko Takeuchi. The image showed an animated version of Jennie wearing a sparkly top, tulle skirt, and long white boots. She also flaunted long, wavy pigtails, which is a signature trait of the Sailor Moon characters.
The Sailor Moon theme is a reference to Jennie’s “You & Me” lyrics. During the chorus, the K-pop star sings, “I love you and me/ Dancing in the moonlight/ Nobody can see/ It’s just you and me tonight.”
“You & Me” arrives four years after Jennie dropped her first solo single, “SOLO,” in November 2018. At the time, Jennie became the first member of BLACKPINK to drop solo music. Jennie showcased her solo material throughout BLACKPINK’s Born Pink world tour. The trek recently concluded with two back-to-back performances in Seoul on Sept. 16 and 17.
