Blake Shelton has words for all the other fathers out there. 10 years after meeting his wife and fellow The Voice coach, Gwen Stefani, Shelton is reflecting on what he’s learned from being a stepfather to the three children Stefani shares with her ex-husband Gavin Rossdale. “When people say it’s not about you anymore when you have a kid… I think, if you’re doing it right, it’s not about you anymore. That’s true,” Shelton said in an exclusive interview with ET.
Blake Shelton went on to say that he followed his father’s example as a stepfather. When Shelton was a kid, his father married a new woman and became a stepfather to Shelton’s stepbrother, Richie. “The example that my dad set for me was that [child] was not even a consideration [in a romantic partnership]. You got three boys? Awesome! My dad did it. My dad raised me. I could do this,” the country singer said.
Blake Shelton and Gwen Stefani’s Love Story
Though it’s been 10 years since Blake Shelton and Gwen Stefani met, it’s only been a few years since they’ve been married. The two tied the knot in 2021, about five years after Stefani and Rossdale divorced and about six years after Shelton and his ex-wife Miranda Lambert divorced. While Stefani entered their marriage with three children — Kingston, Zuma, and Apollo — Shelton did not have any children prior to this relationship.
Like all celebrity couples, Blake Shelton and Gwen Stefani have been the subject of divorce rumors in the tabloids. But as Stefani said in a recent interview with Nylon, the rumors are just that – rumors. “It’s just lies. The truth is the truth, and we know what that is. And so that [negativity] would never penetrate just by me being vulnerable and sharing a song that I didn’t write for anybody else but myself and Blake.”
