Bloober Team, the minds behind Layers of Fear, Observer and The Blair Witch, announced their newest game, The Medium, during Xbox’s game showcase earlier today. A gameplay trailer shows off the unique concept and terrifying graphics.
The Medium brings two visually-stunning, playable worlds to life on the players’ screen simultaneously. “Throughout the trailer, Marianne’s movement through both worlds is controlled by a single analogue stick, while using different interactions between each of the worlds to solve puzzles and explore various paths.” On trend with most new titles for the upcoming generation, Bloober Team promises that these fully-rendered worlds won’t have any loading screens.
Marianne must use her psychic abilities to straddle both worlds to stop an unspeakable evil:
Discover a dark mystery only a medium can solve. Explore the real world and the spirit world at the same time. Use your psychic abilities to solve puzzles spanning both worlds, uncover deeply disturbing secrets, and survive encounters with The Maw – a monster born from an unspeakable tragedy.
Aside from a unique concept and impressive graphics, The Medium promises to be an auditory feat with Akira Yamaoka and Arkadiusz Reikowski composing the soundtrack. Yamaoka is known for his renowned work on the Silent Hill franchise.
Pre-orders are available now for $49.99 on Xbox and Steam. “Players who pre-order the game on PC via Steam will get The Medium original soundtrack, featuring a ‘dual’ score soundtrack by legendary composer Akira Yamaoka, of Silent Hill fame, and Bloober Team’s Arkadiusz Reikowski, and the digital artbook.”
The Medium is set to release on Xbox and PC via Steam during the 2020 Holiday season, but an official date has not been announced.
