Marvel has revealed that the group known as Bloodcoven will play the role of villains in the upcoming Blood Hunt event. For the past couple of months, the publisher has teased the bloody and violent event that will consume the summer. We know several heroes will play major roles in the event, but until now the main antagonist has been in the shadows. Now, Marvel is showing off this mysterious and deadly faction known as Bloodcoven. And they may well be a match for some of Marvel’s strongest heroes.

Meet The Bloodcoven

The Bloodcoven is comprised of six vampiric members. They include Megrim, Cruel, Unusual, the Damascene, Smoke Eater, and their leader Bloodstorm One. According to Marvel, the group’s motives, powers, and abilities will strike fear into the heart of every hero. Plus, their bloodlust is only matched by their brutality and undying commitment to a dark master, yet to be revealed. Blood Hunt writer Jed MacKay reveals that plain old vampires wouldn’t be enough for this bloody series. So, he established the Bloodcoven of supervampires who feed on superhumans.

Each member of the vampire faction is unique in both appearance and power. Larraz explains how each came to be as he worked with MacKay to really flesh them out:

  • Cruel: The inspiration is razor wire, so he is literally wrapped in menacingly sharp barbs.
  • Smoke Eater: He came from the idea that he inhales ghosts to gain their strength and abilities. Because of this, he looks like an amalgamation of all the beings he has consumed.
  • Damascene: The idea for this member is that his body is too sharp to touch. So to make that effect work in comics, Larraz made him geometrically shaped with sharp angles.
  • Megrim: This is the member most like a traditional vampire. Her face hides behind a cloth. Plus, a red motif, like blood, consumes her appearance.
  • The Unusual: The Unusual looks like liquefied lines. It gives the impression that a human-shaped void is moving about…definitely unusual.
  • Bloodstorm One: For the leader of the Bloodcoven, Bloodstorm One is a massive entity. He hides his true face behind a façade like Michelangelo’s David. However, his hulking presence is enough to make anyone afraid.

Joining The Hunt

Marvel’s Blood Hunt event begins with the main series from Jed MacKay and Pepe Larraz. From there, several spin-offs and tie-ins bring the vampire war to several hero’s doorsteps. As such, Marvel has really ramped up excitement for this event as it will be one of the bloodiest yet. Plus, they promise some big death, big surprises, and even bigger shocks.

Blood Hunt #1 is on sale 05/01.
