The Traitors Season 3 has recently premiered, featuring King Charles’ cousin, Lord Ivar Mountbatten, who mentioned the Sussexes’ names at the first chance he got. Per Us Weekly, Lord Ivar gave a rather pretentious answer when asked how he was popular in the public’s eye. “I was born with a very nice last name, Mountbatten. It is one of the royal family’s surnames,” he remarked. “Harry and Meghan’s children are called Mountbatten-Windsor. [King Charles III] is my second cousin.”
He continued on about how because he has “a famous last name,” news of his relationships with Penny Mountbatten and James Coyle was “all over the newspapers.” Naturally, “the first gay royal” might have been putting on a character for The Traitors to add to the show’s dramatization. However, viewers and followers didn’t like his attitude and made sure to state their opinions on Newsbreak’s platform, especially when he was incorrect about the surnames of the Sussexes’ children.
“Lord Ivar, bragging is a sin cause you are talking about others, especially to create publicity. You will answer for your own sins. Throwing a relative under the bus makes you look small. Remember, bragging about your title is not secure in that monarchy. Everybody can fall off the list.”
“Lord Ivar, be careful what you say….. You are criticizing them for no reason,” chimes in another. One top comment focused on Lord Ivar’s ex, Penny Mountbatten, declaring that Prince Philip had an affair with her and that Queen Elizabeth found out. “The Palace creates lies, deception, and cover-ups,” they boldly expressed. Of course, no evidence is available to back this claim; nevertheless, other commenters replied to the comment, agreeing that “the whole monarchy is a lie.”
Prince Harry and Meghan Markle Have Since Changed Their Children’s Surname
Regardless of whether the users spouting the negative comments understood the context of Lord Ivar’s pompous bragging, several did point out a grave error in his remarks. Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s children no longer have the surname “Mountbatten-Windsor,” as the ex-royals have since changed it to “Sussex.” As noted through the comments above, some believe this was Lord Ivar’s way of throwing shade at the Sussexes’ name. Nonetheless, no one can say for certain.
Unfortunately for Lord Ivar Mountbatten, it is very doubtful that Prince Harry and Meghan Markle ever entertain the British aristocrat’s existence in their lives. With King Charles reportedly cutting Harry off from his inheritance, the Sussexes have a lot more on their plate to worry about than the comments of a wannabe royal on a murder mystery game show. Not to mention, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s relationship, along with their focused careers, are on shaky ground.
That said, it is quite ironic how a show called “The Traitors,” of all things, would find its way into having some sort of connection with the Duke and Duchess of Sussex. The two are evidently known for giving up their royal status in 2020, which is widely seen as a betrayal of the monarchy by the general public. Whether Lord Ivar decided to mention Harry and Meghan’s names in The Traitors was subtly deliberate or not is uncertain. Nevertheless, it is quite a coincidence.
