If you’ve started to notice a large horse-shaped hole in your life, fear not! Netflix has dropped the latest trailer for final episodes BoJack Horseman, and it has an air date – January 31.
For those of you who may be unaware, BoJack Horseman follows the trials and tribulations of a has-been anthropomorphic horse. BoJack, once the star of a popular sitcom Horsin’ Around, has found himself in the midst of an existential crisis and struggling to deal with having no perceived purpose in life.
The show has always aimed to be more aware than its contemporaries. Dealing with, and commenting on, the nature of depression, trauma, and change means BoJack Horseman has always felt more grounded and real despite its fantastical alternative setting in which humanoid animals are no more unusual than humans. When discussing the show with Vice, the shows creator Raphael Bob-Waksberg commented that the depiction of BoJack’s depression comes from an honest place.
The first half of season 6 aired on October 25 last year and saw BoJack finally start to make changes towards the better. BoJack had entered rehabilitation at the end of season 5 following an addiction to painkillers and a lifelong toxic relationship with alcohol. In season 6, Bojack found himself confronting the hidden traumas, ghosts, and truths apparent to him. It makes for happy watching.
The second part of season 6 will – hopefully – bring closure to the show. Whether that closure is happy or not is, well, dependent on BoJack. Will he be able to grow and move on from his mistakes? Is the damage he has caused others forgivable? Will character actress Margo Martindale ever find what she needs?
