More politicians need called out for their adverse behavior. People are virtually still feeling the impact of the federal government shutdown and politicians are to blame for this. Now, low-income families suffer as they await their much-needed SNAP benefits. People go without heat due to energy assistance programs being on hold. A democratic representative spoke up about her feelings on the shutdown and how republicans dropped the ball with this one. A boomer North Carolina congresswoman threw a fit when she was called out for her role in the shutdown.
Democrats and conservatives alike have been feuding childishly over who is to blame for the recent government shutdown. With the risk of premiums and deductibles going through the roof for Americans who depend on health insurance, democrats wouldn’t budge. Now, a deal has been passed and it may ultimately harm many households. A recent TikTok posted by @independent shows a verbal battle that takes place between a republican congresswoman and a democratic representative. They got into it when the representative decided she had enough and was going to speak up on the ridiculousness of the shutdown.
So, what started the argument between North Carolina Republican Congresswoman Virginia Foxx and Arizona Democratic Representative Yassamin Ansari? During a meeting, Yassamin says to Virginia, “Welcome back from your eight weeks of taxpayer-funded vacation.” Apparently, this left the boomer congresswoman feeling extremely offended. She interrupted Yassamin, saying, “I am sick and tired of hearing you all say we had an eight week vacation. I worked every day. I don’t know about you but I don’t want to hear another soul say that.”
As Virginia sits there and burns a hole into Yassamin with her look of pure hatred, Yassamin continues. She rips into her a second time and says, “I hope that you all enjoyed yourselves while American families looked at their letters from their health insurance companies, terrified that their insurance premiums were going to double or triple while the House was out of session for 53 days.” On top of that, families quite literally went without food and other vital benefits needed for survival. They had to live with the fear that they might not be able to feed their family and that’s just wrong.
One commenter couldn’t believe that Virginia Foxx still holds her place in congress at an astounding 82 years of age. They said, “She’s the reason we need term limits.” Another commenter added, “Genuinely why are so many elderly in parliament? It’s unfair. Their views are outdated and they’re selfish, they have no real concern for society or the world because they’ll be gone before they can see how bad it gets. I swear there should be an age limit to be in parliament.” But don’t count on that happening anytime soon. Specifically, term limits weren’t included in the original Constitution and no amendments have been made. Without people truly challenging this idea, we’ll be stuck with people like Virginia Foxx in congress for years to come.
