These agents are also equally infamous, especially given how closely tied Border Patrol is to ICE. Recently, a YouTuber known as Long Island Audit, who is known for auditing the public and testing his First Amendment rights, turned his attention to Border Patrol in Texas.
It was truly a daring move, since nobody likes being recorded without consent, much less people who are considered law enforcement officers. During his encounter with the Border Patrol agents in Texas, the conversation inevitably touched on broader issues involving ICE and Border Patrol, including aggressive detentions of immigrants and even U.S. citizens. As the exchange went on, tensions escalated. At one point, the YouTuber accused the Border Patrol agents of being willing to violate people’s rights. Shockingly, one Texas Border Patrol agent openly admitted it, saying they could do so if they wanted to. This response clearly caught the YouTuber off guard, prompting a shocked laugh in reaction.
In response, the YouTuber stated that he would protest in front of the Texas Border Patrol agent’s house, as well as the houses of his colleagues. He also made it clear that he did not appreciate Border Patrol in Texas going through his luggage without what he believed was a legitimate reason. The YouTuber then repeated the Border Patrol agent’s own words, emphasizing the claim that they could do whatever they wanted under the Trump administration. The exchange left many viewers stunned, especially because it involved Texas Border Patrol officers openly acknowledging such behavior on camera.
These Texas Border Patrol agents truly said the quiet part out loud. Many people online agreed that ICE, DHS, and the Trump administration had been blatantly ignoring people’s rights and acting in a tyrannical manner to spread fear. Condemnation quickly followed, with many directing their anger at the Border Patrol agent in Texas, viewing him as corrupt and unfit for his position. “He doesn’t deserve that badge!” one user said.
Others remarked that the entire situation stemmed from DHS hiring practices, arguing that people were brought on without proper vetting and that almost anyone was allowed to join. According to these critics, this was why there were so many incompetent and unstable individuals now walking around in Texas with Border Patrol badges and even weapons. “This is what happens when standards are lowered drastically to hire basically anyone with just a pulse to become part of an institution that represents the government. Whether that be a public servant, law enforcement, or any type of agency that represents the government, it always exposes the buffoons within our government,” one user said.
Another user pointed out how ironic it was that the Border Patrol agent in Texas was acting in such a racist manner despite being a person of color himself. “There is a saying in Mexican culture, based on regionalism, classism, and racism: ‘El peor enemigo de un mexicano es otro mexicano.’ This is a classic example. The man was probably born and raised here, so he does not relate to Mexican migrants. He may look like them and speak Spanish, but he does not identify with them and may even be embarrassed by them. It is essentially self-hate,” one user said.
