At the beginning of the newest Boruto: Naruto Next Generations episode, Boruto told his dad he wished he could meet Naruto when he was younger. He is about to get his wish. We, as viewers, know exactly what Naruto was like as a kid, you better believe it, but Boruto knows very little about his father. Boruto mostly knows Naruto as that dad who is never home and forgets birthdays. Oh, how Boruto is about to get a whole new understanding.
The anime has centered around Urashiki, an Otsutsuki clan member who is after the chakra of the world. His main targets are the tailed beasts for their immense chakra, which meant many episodes of Boruto protecting Shukaku, Gaara’s one-tailed beast.
Next up, the leaf village thought Urashiki would be after Naruto next so they started hunting Urashiki down, but with some clever Genjutsu, Urashiki snuck into the village anyways. To everyone’s surprise, he was not after Naruto at all but a turtle, a time-traveling turtle. The mythos behind this turtle and the reason Urashiki wants it is a mystery, though I could take a few guesses. He probably wanted to go back in time and steal Naruto’s chakra back when he was a kid and much weaker.
Boruto and Sasuke interrupt his plans and are the ones who get sent back in time. To be honest, all of this seems like an excuse to revisit the original Naruto series, but I’m here for it. The preview for the next episode looks promising with an appearance from young Sakura (I wonder if she will actually do anything), Jiraiya, Lady Tsunade, and young Naruto himself. It also featured the original Naruto music, which is the definition of nostalgia.
I might be more excited to see grown-up Sasuke meet young Sasuke than I am for Boruto to meet young Naruto. No matter what happens, it’s sure to be an adventure.
