Brad Pitt demands access to Angelina Jolie’s emails in connection to their heated lawsuit over a $500 million winery sale. The former couple, who split in 2016 has been embroiled in a lawsuit involving Angelina’s sale of her portion of the French winery Chateau Miravel, which they purchased together while married, hoping to grow into a business empire their kids could someday inherit. After their divorce, the Maleficent actress wanted no part in the business, opting to sell off her 50% share, leading to the long-prevailing dispute.
Brad has alleged wrongful sale, pointing out that his ex-wife sold out her stake to another buyer, despite his interest in buying her out for $54.4 million, paid over six years. According to the lawsuit, Angelina Jolie’s decision to abandon the buyout talks with Brad Pitt and sell off her shares in the winery to Stoli Group at $64 million breached their initial agreement never to sell out her stake without his approval. After dragging on for years with the stakes seemingly in Angelina’s favor, the 60-year-old actor is taking a new approach.
Brad Pitt Hits Angelina Jolie With Fresh Allegations in $500 Million Winery Dispute
In fresh court documents obtained by In Touch Weekly, Brad Pitt and his legal team have accused his ex-wife Angelina Jolie of intentionally withholding evidence that could prove the truth about the wrongful sale of her shares in the winery. The actor demands an LA judge to compel his ex to produce this evidence, including email correspondence with non-attornies, which could prove her guilt. It read in part,
“In a last-ditch attempt to suppress the truth about her wrongful sale to the Stoli Parties, [Angelina] has withheld hundreds of emails she exchanged with her inner circle in the period leading up to the sale on claims of attorney-client privilege. But 126 of those emails are entirely between non-lawyers. These 126 communications should be ordered produced.”
Brad Pitt’s attorney alleged in the lawsuit that his client first requested these documents two years back. However, rather than comply willingly, Angelina Jolie stonewalled them for more than a year, eventually agreeing to provide them last Summer. So far, Angelina Jolie has produced only one internal communication reflecting the winery sale, Brad Pitt’s lawyer alleged. The 49-year-old allegedly claimed the other internal communications are “protected by the attorney/client privilege.”
Brad’s Lawyer Believes Angelina’s Attempt to Withhold Crucial Emails Is Unlawful
Brad’s attorney noted that the said communications include “hundreds of emails to or from non-attorneys,” including her business manager, image consultants, wine consultant, finance consultant, and personal assistants. The lawsuit claimed,
“126 of these communications do not even involve any attorney participant. [Angelina’s] wildly overbroad assertion of privilege over these 126 communications is unsupported by the law, and it cannot justify her near-complete cover-up of this critically important discovery.”
Brad Pitt is demanding that the court order Angelina Jolie to provide the emails in question as part of the court proceedings in line with the lawsuit. This comes days after the Unbroken actress secured a major win in the court battle against her ex-husband. On November 25, 2024, a judge granted Angelina’s request to have her ex-husband hand over documents including text and emails that could implicate him in her claims of abuse, lies, and cover-ups. This, her attorney believes, is crucial evidence that could expose the harm Brad allegedly inflicted on Angelina and their six children, some of whom have officially cut ties with him.
