A Brazilian reality TV star has died in an upsetting medical mishap, which has been heartbreaking for fans to learn. Brazilian news outlet Globo 1 revealed on Wednesday that Luana Andrade has died. Andrade, a 29-year-old model, appeared alongside influencer boyfriend João Hadad in season 6 of the Brazilian reality show Power Couple. Andrade and Hadad were contestants in the show’s sixth season, which aired beginning in May 2022. The pair competed against thirteen couples as they lived under one roof and competed in challenges that tested how well they knew each other. Andrade and Hadad were the fourth runners-up.
What Went Wrong During Luana Andrade’s Surgery?
According to the outlet, Andrade was over two hours into an “aesthetic procedure” at São Luiz Hospital on Monday. During the procedure, she went into cardiac arrest, after which doctors rushed her to the ICU. After that, they were able to revive her temporarily, though she could not recover from the damage done.
“On Monday afternoon, Luana Andrade was admitted for a liposuction procedure,” performed by “a private surgeon and anesthetist hired by the family,” the hospital’s statement on the tragedy, as translated to English, began.
An “abrupt respiratory event” led Andrade to go into cardiac arrest,” leaving doctors to act fast and “immediately resuscitate” the model.
After Andrade “underwent tests,” it was found that she had “thrombosis,” which results from blood clots blocking a person’s veins or arteries, according to Johns Hopkins. Andrade’s cause of death was declared a massive pulmonary embolism.
João Hadad Posted a Heartfelt Tribute to Luana on His Instagram
Addressing the heartbreaking loss in an Instagram tribute on Tuesday, Hadad said he was “living my worst nightmare” after losing his partner of two years. Fans spent hours leaving their condolences on photos of the couple as the news became public. Hadad opened up about the personal tragedy with a statement and shared his feelings with fans, saying,
“It is with great regret and a lot of pain in my heart that I say goodbye to my Luana.”
Hadad referred to Andrade as “my princess, my beautiful.” As he looked back on their time together, he called theirs a “beautiful story.” Despite his sadness, Hadad celebrated that as a couple, they “lived our dreams intensely.”

“Today, it is difficult to understand God’s plans. I do not know if or when I will ever process the absence that you leave in my life or in the lives of the legions of people who loved you.”
