A bit of sad news for the continued adventures of Link has come today. The Legend of Zelda franchise was forever changed with the Nintendo Switch title Breath of the Wild. It brought a fresh new perspective to the story and introduced a lot of new mechanics. Some fans even call it the best game ever. Whether this is the case or not, it has made an impressive mark on the series. So much so that a direct sequel has been in development for a while. It was previously set for release this year. Unfortunately, it seems that Breath of the Wild 2 will be delayed until early 2023 instead.

The Legend of Zelda series producer, Eiji Aonuma, has an update to share about the launch timing of the sequel to The Legend of #Zelda: Breath of the Wild. Please take a look. pic.twitter.com/7OhayhiuM9

BOTW Has An Impressive World to Display

Legend of Zelda Switch games

Legend of Zelda has always been an impressive adventure game filled with interest, and its Switch iterations are no exception. Breath of the Wild took something out of the very first game’s book and created a world where Ganondorf had won. With an intriguing and expansive Hyrule to explore, there was plenty to see. And it left fans wanting more. Though Breath of the Wild 2 has been delayed, there was a prequel in Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity. It may not be canon, but it does provide an excellent look into life before the fall of Hyrule. Furthermore, with the sequel well on its way, there is more of this tale to uncover and enjoy.

Zelda Producer Apologizes But Promises Big

Zelda producer

Eiji Aonuma, the current producer of Legend of Zelda, made the delay announcement himself. Like so many games and companies lately, release windows are becoming harder to hit without damaging quality. Hence, the move from late 2022 to Spring 2023. Aonuma promises that BOTW 2 will have a lot of new features and stories. With so much at hand, it’s understandable why they might need more time. The first game will be hard to follow, but the team is confident in their work. Hopefully, we get some more news or trailers at later Nintendo Directs this year.
