Britney Spears is attracting attention after debuting a fresh new look. The 44-year-old singer recently appeared on celebrity hairstylist Chris Appleton’s Instagram, showing off her blonde locks and smiling for the camera.
The appearance comes after a turbulent few months for Spears, who made headlines in March following her legal troubles.
While plenty of fans praised Britney’s appearance, others were left doing a double take. One comment suggesting the singer looked almost unrecognizable quickly became one of the most-liked reactions under the post.
Sending the camera a big smile while posing with Chris, Britney wore her signature light locks down and parted down the middle. The pop princess, who was pulled over for driving erratically in Ventura County, CA earlier this year, stuck out her tongue, also smiling as she held some curling tongs.
Looking stylish in a printed red sundress, Britney Spears stood behind Chris as he posed for a selfie. In the caption, the California-based celebrity hairstylist reflected on the surreal experience of working with the pop icon, writing: “As a kid growing up in England, Britney Spears was the soundtrack to so many moments. Never in a million years did I think I’d one day be standing behind the chair (or in this case her standing behind mine, lol) styling her hair.”
Chris added that “some moments really do come full circle,” also dubbing Spears “an icon” as well as calling her a “genuinely kind and gentle soul.” Chris is followed by 4 million on Instagram and boasts celebrity clients including SKIMS founder Kim Kardashian and singer Jennifer Lopez. Kardashian, 45, quickly noted the post, commenting: “This is what the world needs.”

Britney Spears deleted her Instagram following her arrest, which saw her spend the night in jail. The much-troubled songstress was released the next morning and pleaded guilty in court on May 4. While she is avoiding any jail time, she has landed herself 12 months of probation and must complete a DUI class, alongside paying fines and fees.
The mom of two has a history of public outbursts and unstable behavior, plus a Bipolar disorder diagnosis. Spears voluntarily entered rehab following her arrest, but she’s now back on the ‘Gram and seemingly doing well.
Following her March arrest, Britney’s rep stated: “Britney is going to take the right steps and comply with the law and hopefully this can be the first step in long overdue change that needs to occur in Britney’s life.”
The fan response has been mixed, though. More than 300 users liked one reply that read, “That’s not Britany!” [sic] Another commenter questioned how recent the photo was, seemingly expressing similar doubts.
Not everyone felt that way, however. Elsewhere, fans praised Spears’ appearance, with many saying they were happy to see the singer looking confident and enjoying herself.
As the debate continues online, Spears has yet to publicly respond to the reactions surrounding the photos.
