A woman in Tampa, Florida, was asked on a date by a man who subsequently told her he was on a budget. After each of them paid for their own sushi order, she slammed him online, calling him a “broke boy.” As a result, the internet saw her as mean and dragged her for her reaction, including an unkind text message.
The woman in question, Trel C., detailed on TikTok how her date with a man named Alan went. According to her, they met on Hinge, and after a day and a half, he asked her out for dinner. They ended up going to Crazy Sushi in Wesley Chapel, and everything was going fine until Alan saw the menu.
The Florida woman detailed that Crazy Sushi has an all-you-can-eat buffet option that costs $36 per person. Shocked by the price, Alan told Trel that he was “on a budget,” and asked her if she was okay with ordering “à la carte,” that is, paying per roll. The woman, knowing that Alan was the one who asked her out, refused to order à la carte.
“We’re gonna order separately,” Trel told the server. “I want the all-you-can-eat, and he’s gonna do the à la carte.”
The man apologized for being on a budget and asked Trel if she was fine with paying for her own food. She agreed, only because she really loves eating sushi, according to her. The date kept going, with Trel pointing out that Alan asked for a soda that didn’t come at first, leading to him refusing to eat, and then he asked for melted butter for his sushi.
Trel knew he wasn’t seeing him again, but chose to focus on enjoying her sushi. After some more awkward moments, including Alan appearing to rush her and saying he was very tired, the date was over, and the Florida woman was finally at home.
Rude Text Message, Reactions
However, Trel then received a text from Alan. He said that since she didn’t want children, it was best for them not to see each other anymore. Apparently, it was a great idea to talk about children on the very first date after only chatting on Hinge for less than two days.
As a result, Trel sent a “graceful response,” which she showed to her audience.
“This wasn’t going to go anywhere because you’re broke,” she wrote. “You having a heart attack over a $36 buffet is a huge ick. How do you want kids, but you work 20 hours a week at Jets pizza? You expect the mother to be the sole provider while you run around Tampa Bay filming movies? Broke men disgust me! I was trying to be nice because I understand everyone’s journey is different but PLEASE do not think you’re the prize here.”
While the consensus was that Alan should’ve paid for the dinner since he was the one who asked Trel out, the majority of users said she was rude to him in the text.
“I was on your side until I read the text exchange,” one user said. Another one commented, “Normalize someone not being for you and just moving on without bashing them on the internet.” A third one added, “You don’t have to settle, but you don’t gotta be mean.”
All in all, certainly, Trel and Alan won’t have a second date. And even if they did, sushi is out of the question.
