Since our most recent President was officially inaugurated, people who support him have become braver. By this, I mean that I feel as though I’ve been seeing more instances of people being publicly racist or homophobic, and I feel as though that’s linked to the idea that our own President has those same beliefs. Recently, two men at a Walmart in Cynthiana, Kentucky, felt it necessary to voice exactly how they think about black and brown people. Let me tell you, they don’t feel very kindly towards them.
The above video shows two men in what appears to be a checkout area of a Walmart department store in Kentucky. One of the men is wearing a completely camouflage ensemble while the other is wearing jeans and a gray jacket over a flannel shirt. The two of them stare into the camera as the man recording, a brown man, grills them about something they said just before filming began.
Allegedly, the man in the gray jacket had said something akin to wanting to cut out the brown man’s guts. The man started to shy away when confronted about it, as though denying it. However, as the man behind the camera continued to press on, the former finally let out all the racist thoughts he must have been thinking up to that point.
“This is who Trump appeals to – the lowest common denominator”
Fortunately, the video doesn’t stop there. The TikToker posted a second part detailing what happened when the Walmart staff finally got involved. Sadly, it seemed that the staff was not very eager to assist the man, even with undeniable evidence of the man in the gray jacket threatening without provocation.
According to the captions in the second part, after the store decided not to be helpful, the man called the cops instead. They don’t appear in the video, though they had allegedly insisted that he press charges against the man in the gray jacket. However, the TikToker let his empathy and the other man’s fear of going to jail be enough to stop him from doing so.
I have always been puzzled by how openly disrespectful some people can be, especially in public settings. Unfortunately, we live in a time when individuals feel increasingly comfortable expressing their opinions, regardless of who might be listening. Let’s hope we don’t have to see this man in another video in the future.
