Boom Studios is bringing Buffy the Vampire Slayer back with a special one-shot. Buffy the Vampire Slayer: The Lost Summer comes from writer Casey Gilly and artist Lauren Knight. It features a new story that fits within the continuity of the popular Buffy television series. It follows the “Scooby Gang” on a road trip that ends up being filled with danger and the paranormal. You know, a regular Tuesday for the gang.
Catching Up with Buffy the Vampire Slayer
According to Boom Studios, Buffy the Vampire Slayer: The Lost Summer #1 begins with a mission for Spike. The blonde vampire wants to keep all his embarrassing poetry from ever being discovered. This leads Buffy and the gang on a wild chase to New Orleans. However, along the way the group can’t resist an antique fair. Here, they are fascinated by some Casquette Girls clothes. This leads Dawn to make a wish she may soon regret. In the end, the gang ends up experiencing a first-hand account of the sisters’ identities.
A Sneak Peek Inside
The folks at CBR shared the main cover of the Buffy the Vampire Slayer one-shot. It features art by Mirka Andolfo and depicts the gang on a supernatural S’mores break in the desert. A variant cover for the issue, from Veronica Fish, shows the gang stopping at a desert gas station. Another variant, this time from Paulina Ganucheau shows the gang piled into the car with Giles behind the wheel. Finally, a sneak peek inside the issue shows a Spike and Buffy enjoying a domestic break from the Supernatural as they watch an episode of “Relics Road Trip”.
Of course, the Buffy television series is a cult classic! I know people who have never seen an episode and still understand its cultural relevance. So, to get a comic that fits within the lore of that show is quite a treat for fans. Buffy the Vampire Slayer: The Lost Summer #1 hits shelves and digital platforms on May 23.
