Bungie has been hard at work the past few years developing Destiny 2 content. On the side though, the team has been developing a mysterious new IP. We first heard details about this when they registered a trademark for a title known simply as “Matter”. For the past two years, we’ve heard nothing regarding what this project is. Thankfully though, that has changed. A job listing on Bungie’s site for Incubation Investment Designer showcases some of the first details about the next title, and they aren’t entirely surprising.

Bungie

The listing’s skill requirements ask specifically for experience regarding various systems for role-playing games, meaning it’s likely a new RPG. One of the responsibilities is to “Design, build, and tune a wide variety of pursuit and loot systems”. All of this is likely looking pretty familiar to you given the nature of the Destiny franchise. What’s interesting though is that the job listing talks about “distributing items in a necromancer’s dungeon”. It seems the team at Bungie wishes to go with a more medieval approach with their next title which is interesting. We haven’t seen many AAA medieval RPGs in recent years, so it’d be refreshing to see one done.

We can only hope that the project is done right. It does, unfortunately, seem like it will take the Games as a Service model of Destiny 2 but hopefully, it’s done correctly. As long as it’s nothing like Destiny 1’s launch we might be good (what a mess that was). With everything Bungie’s been doing in recent years though, I do hold some faith. They’ve proven since Destiny 1’s The Taken King that they can do some things right so hopefully, that passion holds up here.

Bungie

My opinion, as always, isn’t the only one. We’d love to hear your thoughts on a new Bungie RPG, and what you think of Destiny 2 in more recent years. Be sure to let us know, and stay tuned at The Nerd Stash for all your news, reviews, and more!
