The end of Krakoa may be upon us, but a new series finds Cable doing everything he can to stop it. Spinning off the interconnected Fall of the House of X and Rise of the Powers of X, this new series helps play out the final days of the Krakoan Age. From the team of Fabian Nicieza and Scot Easton, Cable follows the time-hopping mutant as he wages war against Orchis. However, there is also a new threat to deal with in the form of Neocracy. So, Cable turns to the only person he can trust: himself.
Cable Prepares for Battle
Hitting shelves in January, Cable marks the return of Fabian Nicieza to the character. Nicieza’s work throughout the 90s and 2000s helped shape the mutant into who he is today. His work is seen in X-Force comics, Cable’s solo adventures, and the popular Cable & Deadpool series.
This time, Cable teams up with Young Cable to stop a future from coming true. Something known as The Neocracy is coming, bringing with it the end of all mutantkind and humankind. After rescuing his younger self from Orchis, the duo must team up to stop this looming threat and save the future.
Speaking to Marvel, Nicieza shared what readers can expect from this new series:
“This series finds Nathan Dayspring Askani’son Gesundheit up against the wall because while the lives of the X-world on Krakoa are under attack, Cable has to focus on the next potential ‘big threat.’ In order to stop the Neocracy before it becomes a revolution of evolution, Cable needs the help (and annoyance) of Young Cable! Indeed, hijinks ensue and Chiclet guns will be fired!”
The End Of Mutantkind?
This new series comes out of the impending end of the Age of Krakoa. During this year’s NYCC, Marvel revealed that the Krakoan Age, which began in Jonathan Hickman’s House of X and Powers of X, is ending. However, it is not going down without a fight. Beginning next year, several series and spinoffs will help usher in a new era for mutantkind.
Will Cable be able to salvage Krakoa from the hands of Orchis? Is it too late to stop The Neocracy? Will the time-hopping mutant and his younger self ever get along? Only time will tell!
Cable #1 hits shelves on January 17 with a wonderful cover from X-Men legend Whilce Portacio.
