Airbnb horror stories have become a pretty common thing since the company has continued to grow in popularity. However, unfortunately for this California woman, one of those stories became her reality. A viral TikTok with over 880K views explains the intense situation. The poster has been identified as a woman named Alyssa, who was just trying to give others a heads up about a specific house for rent. However, the home’s owner had other ideas.
In the TikTok, Alyssa goes over the rules set up by the Airbnb host as she and a few loved ones would be returning home to California for a few days. The rules seem straightforward enough. Pets allowed, six people max, no parties. Pretty simple stuff, with nothing out of the ordinary. However, after getting to the house, the woman states that it was beautiful. Although the group has noticed that one of the amenities listed did not work. The gas fire pit was allegedly broken when the group arrived.
California Airbnb Host Has a Crazy Switch Up on Guest
When contacting the host regarding the broken item, Alyssa would ask if it could be fixed before she and her family left. She would continue by asking for a small refund due to the broken item. The Airbnb host would quickly shut down both of those ideas, claiming that it would be fixed after checkout. Alyssa found the comment to be slightly rude, however. When it came time to check out and give the review, Alyssa would give the house four out of five stars. She would also state that communication with the host could have been better. Even the comment section agrees with Alyssa. “He is so incredibly wrong,” one wrote regarding the host.
The California Airbnb host would not let this slide, though. The man would respond back to the review, calling Alyssa’s refund request “Predatory.” Although he wouldn’t stop there. The man would leave a review on Alyssa’s Airbnb profile, allegedly spreading lies about her stay. The allegations included more than the maximum number of people staying at the house, as well as an unlisted pet on the property. The woman denied all of these claims completely. However, the host would then request $150 from Alyssa for “pet cleaning fees.”
It would seem this California Airbnb host was trying to make a few extra bucks off of this unsuspecting woman. Alyssa refused to pay the fee, which may just be that. What should have been a stress-free mini-vacation with her loved ones was turned into such a hassle for Alyssa. Fortunately for her, Airbnb was able to refund the entire cost of the stay.
