Most of what you see in the media right now is ICE agents raiding immigrants on the street, in their jobs, and even in restaurants. However, the truth is that many people disagree with the government’s actions and have taken matters into their own hands. For instance, several citizens in California have turned against ICE agents in many ways. The best part is that this did not include violence, but they fought back in the most petty ways possible.
User bruno_amato took the time to create a video on TikTok summarizing some of the most anti-ICE actions by various people in Los Angeles. Bruno comments that one of the most iconic situations was that several ICE agents were resting at the Marriott Hotel in Pasadena. Yet, several LA citizens drove up to the hotel and honked their cars’ horns all night to prevent the agents from sleeping. Another interesting incident was that ICE arrived at a business in downtown LA, and the owner locked them inside. This forced the agents to call LAPD, but the people of LA blocked the streets to distract the cops.
Bruno Amato also notes that one of his favorite headlines features LA’s vice mayor, Cynthia Gonzalez, who essentially called on the “cholosโ, the 18th Street gang members, to defend their territory. Besides that, the vice mayor basically said that another gang, this being ICE, is invading the territory of other gangs and that the leaders should do something to stop it. If calling out the California gangs is not a way to show that the majority of citizens of the state are against ICE agents and their raids, I don’t know what is. In some notes and videos, there is even talk that ICE agents are already very hurt by all the hate they receive, and this โharassmentโ by citizens.
So now we know that the discomfort is not only among the people, but also among various government officials. Although many more people from all over the world support this movement, such as user Robin Towne Sisouk, who said, “I’m so proud of the people of CA. Bravo to them for standing up for those who can’t stand up for themselves! ๐ช๐”.
Sometimes, the government forgets that the real power is in the hands of the citizens. So we hope that all those who disagree with these aggressive policies against migrants can take action and stop all these injustices. Most importantly, though: without any violence.
