During the holiday season, so many gifts are being shipped everywhere that someone’s order is bound to end up at the wrong address. But what one California father wasn’t expecting was that his daughter’s Christmas gift would be sent to one of the largest aircraft carriers in the world. “According to google FPO AE 09523 is the USS Gerald R Ford,” the dad remarks in his post on r/mildlyinfuriating, referring to the address displayed in the USPS notification updating his order’s location.
“Is your daughter’s Christmas present a tank turret?” asks a Reddit user, jokingly. “On the bright side, your kid’s toy is currently more well-traveled than most of us. Just hope it doesn’t get deployed before Christmas,” says another. Unfortunately, the dad might not be receiving his daughter’s gift anytime soon, as one commenter points out that the USS Gerald R Ford is currently in the Caribbean, near Puerto Rico, according to an aircraft carrier tracker.
“If there were any crayons in there, the Marines have already found them,” jokes a user, as the dad noted that the order was art supplies for his daughter. Hopefully, he ordered the item from Amazon, as the customer support should be more than willing to either refund or send a replacement. As to how this wild situation happened with his order, the explanation could be related to where he lives currently: Japan.
Based on his previous Reddit posts, it’s fairly clear that the father, while from San Dimas, California, is currently stationed as military personnel in Japan. And while it’s pretty outrageous that his Christmas gift was sent to the USS Gerald R Ford of all places, it’s still a military postal address. In other words, clearly, whoever is sorting at the distributor warehouse didn’t check twice when they selected the wrong military address out of many overseas locations. It makes a little sense, but it doesn’t make the situation any less infuriating.
