For many people, weddings and proposals are some of their most precious memories, after all, they don’t happen often. Still, that didn’t prevent an old woman from a well-off neighborhood in California from ruining a couple’s wedding proposal in a public spot; the woman even called the police on the couple, only to find out that it’s not illegal to profess undying love and commitment in public.
The incident happened in Roessler Point, Palos Verdes Estates in California, around April 10. A TikTok account that goes by the name jackiehannaa was at the Roessler Point gazebo, arranging a wedding proposal for her friend. jackiehannaa was also with her husband as they were putting up a heart-shaped flower statue when out of nowhere, an old woman with three dogs just walked into their event arrangement.
jackiehannaa also recalled that the old woman was rude and didn’t even greet them– she started telling them right away that they couldn’t do what they were doing. The old woman’s dogs also started jumping on jackiehannaa’s husband and rummaging through their wedding event materials.
jackiehannaa and her husband told the woman to back up a bit and control her dogs, and that was when she got annoyed at them, going so far as to call the police. Allegedly, the old woman even lied to the police, saying that she was being yelled at. However, the police were on jackiehannaa’s side and told the old woman that nothing illegal was going on at Roessler Point.

Sadly, jackiehannaa didn’t post the interaction with the cops, but in one of her uploaded videos, she claimed that the cops even laughed at the old woman. Eventually, the old woman left, and the California wedding proposal for jackiehannaa’s friend pushed through, with positive results.

jackiehannaa’s post quickly went viral; however, she also somehow sparked off a debate about whether it’s alright to use public spaces like that. Some have also argued that the old woman was still in the right, but calling the cops on them was not exactly a sociable move.
Others have speculated that the old woman was triggered by the scene because no one would propose to her, and that the three dogs she had were her only company. Still, causing a scene and even threatening legal action was somewhat sociopathic on her part, as most of the time, people– even strangers celebrate proposals within their immediate vicinity. If anything, the old woman could’ve at least just asked nicely to share the space for a bit.
