You never know who you’re going to meet when you’re out and about in Los Angeles. Though you’ll probably see lots of smiling faces, other times, the people you meet may not be so friendly. This is what happened to a California man while he was enjoying his day, planting flowers at Los Angeles Union Station. He was approached by a man he calls the “Ovulation Police” and had probably the strangest (and scariest) interaction ever. However, he decided to turn it into a teaching lesson rather than dwell on it too long.
Preston (@icronicusername) clearly loves his city, Los Angeles. In some of his videos, he goes around picking up trash and planting native flowers in the park. While doing the latter at Los Angeles Union Station, he had a very strange experience. He was approached by a man from behind, who was mumbling about Preston “ovulating.” Preston tells the man, “I don’t ovulate at all. I’m a man.” Preston says that, even though he’s not trans, he believes that it may have been a “transphobic moment.”
He says that, at this point, the man started coming off as violent to him. Preston asks him, “Oh, are you going to pick me up and move me?” Preston tells the man he isn’t leaving the park. At this point, the man picks up Preston’s phone out of his hand and throws it. Preston gets his phone back and carries on with his day, a bit disturbed by it all.
At the end of Preston’s video, he decided not to call the police on the man, as some people would have chosen to do. Why? He said he was afraid the LAPD would“hurt him” even though the man tried to attack him. Preston explains, “This is not something I should have to worry about” but to him, it seemed like the right thing to do. Preston also shares that he’s running for Mayor in Los Angeles so that he can make a difference in people’s lives in an area that means so much to him.
One commenter said, “LOVE how you turned this into a solution for mental health crisis in unhoused people.” Another commenter feared, “If he attacked you, he might attack someone more vulnerable.” This is fair. However, how Preston handled it seemed like the right thing to do in his eyes, and I think that’s admirable.
