Some people learn traffic laws the hard way. Just like the group of moped riders in Beverly Hills who recently decided red lights were optional and ended up getting a physics lesson courtesy of a Range Rover. The now-viral footage, originally shared by Instagram account @streetpeopleofbeverlyhillsgtm, shows two reckless riders zooming straight through a red light on Rodeo Drive, only to T-bone a massive white SUV that was legally cruising through the intersection. Spoiler alert: the Range Rover didn’t budge.
In the video, the two bikers slam headfirst into the side of the luxury SUV, instantly getting launched off their seats. One ends up sprawled out on the pavement while their buddies—rather than checking if they’re okay—roll up and start acting like they were the ones wronged. One of them even dares to slap the side of the Range Rover, as if it somehow materialized out of thin air instead of, you know, driving through a green light like it’s supposed to.
Denial Is a Hell of a Drug
Beverly Hills police arrived on the scene, but most of the moped crew had already scattered, leaving behind just one rider who was too injured to flee. According to reports, he’s a minor and had to be taken to the hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries. That’s the good news. The bad news is that he might be facing charges once the case is forwarded to the L.A. County District Attorney’s Office.
Unsurprisingly, social media had a field day with the incident. Comments ranged from sheer disbelief at the bikers’ entitlement to amusement at how instant the consequences were. Over on Reddit, some of my favorite comments were:
- “I love how they immediately start acting like the Range Rover did something wrong. Bro, the only thing it did was exist.”
- “Physics remains undefeated.”
- “They were lucky it was just a Range Rover and not a city bus.”
If there’s anything to take away from this chaotic moment, it’s that traffic signals exist for a reason. Green means go. Red means stop.
