Some people don’t deserve to be parents, period. A 20-year-old mother in California is being held on $1 million bail for something that’s been sadly happening often this summer: leaving children in a car under blistering temperatures. More specifically, the woman was getting lip filler injections while she left her two sons, ages 1 and 2, inside her Toyota Corolla. The clinic’s staff told her that her baby children could stay in the waiting room during the procedure. However, she left the toddlers alone because she was “concerned about the time,” according to NBC.
According to the police report, the young mother “gave her kids candy, crackers, milk, and a cell phone to watch” videos while she got her lips done. Outside temperatures had reached over 100 degrees that day, but the mother thought it would be because she left the A/C on in her car. Little did she know that the vehicle turns off automatically after an hour of inactivity. For over two hours, the woman didn’t bother to check if her two babies were doing alright while she did the injections. From this, it’s pretty clear where her priorities were at. As expected, the rest of the story ended tragically.
The 1-year-old was allegedly foaming at the mouth when she returned. The hospital she rushed him to reported “an internal temperature of 107 degrees and no signs of life” before being later pronounced dead. The 2-year-old fortunately survived and recovered, being able to eat and drink water after being treated. Still, the fact that the mother planned for her two baby boys to sit in her car with snacks under sweltering temperatures is wild. “So they could’ve choked instead,” remarked a Reddit user commenting on the story. “What a horrible excuse for a ‘mother.’ I can’t believe she thought saying that would make it any better.”
“How is there a story like this every week?” protests another commenter. “You shouldn’t leave any living being unattended in a car. Rudimentary sh*t.” Just a week ago, a mom in Texas left her 9-year-old to die inside her car amid dangerous summer temperatures. It should be common sense at this point not to leave young children unattended in any vehicle, especially during the summer. As one person puts it: “This is bad parenting all around.” And while the older son survived the tragic incident, he’ll certainly live with trauma for the rest of his life — watching his younger brother die on top of having a near-death experience. Sacrificing your children’s safety and well-being for a cosmetic lip job is another level of appalling negligence.
