A security guard’s job is to keep something safe, so they need to be alert to everyone around them. However, it becomes too suspicious when these same guards follow a customer around the store, even when there is no reason to do so. Something similar happened in California, where a security guard accused a customer of stealing at a supermarket. This guard was overly meticulous in his mission to accuse this customer, taking his time to investigate.
Redditor TheManager_1 shared a video on r/KarenGoBrrr showing a security guard investigating a customer’s shopping cart outside the store. The problem is that this particular security guard in California accused the customer of stealing and went so far as to check the receipt line by line to make sure that every item was in the cart. Rather than an investigation, the security guard was auditing the customer and took his time doing so. Even after finishing the check, he still asked the customer, “Are these the only items you have?” The customer replied, “Yeah, from this store,” and, not satisfied, the guard asked, “Sure? Nothing in…” Although he cut himself off mid-sentence, the guard pointed to the customer’s car.
Just as the guard was finishing up, the customer asked who had sent him, because it was the second time. The guard simply excused himself, saying that it was all orders “from inside.”
“Walk back in and say you want to return EVERYTHING, Business can’t resell it,” said Warlord68.
Another user, SwtIndica, immediately responded to this comment by saying: “Yup. Came here to say this. 👆 And then find a different store. Not sure if this rises to the legal level of ‘profiling’, but I believe a third time would certainly prove a pattern of behavior.”
Although this last comment leaves a seed of doubt that this is a much deeper issue, namely that of “profiling.” Although the video does not show precisely what OP looks like, the truth is that anyone can become a target.
Beyond that, what really upset many people is that OP says in the video that this is the second time this has happened to them in the same place. Therefore, it is expected that after complaining to the guard or, if appropriate, to the store as well. We hope OP will find a better place to shop. Especially since at the end of the video, OP argues with the guard because he “left an item where it was.”
