When you plan on going on a date or out with a friend, there are probably some considerations you make first. Are you familiar with the restaurant and know that you will enjoy the food there? Will you have enough money to pay your bill? A restaurant server in California became increasingly suspicious of two people after they sent their dishes back. Why? They were nearly fully eaten plates multiple times. That’s just the beginning!
A restaurant server (@girlypopzonly) shared an experience that recently happened to her. She was serving two customers and they continuously sent back the food. Now, that may seem normal if the food was bad. But what if you saw that the couple kept eating the allegedly “bad” food and then sending it back? At that point, the suspicions are warranted.
The server explained two customers came to the restaurant and placed an order of a couple of drinks and entrees. Time and time again, the pair would tell the server they weren’t enjoying the food. In these cases, the food is sent back and the bill is removed. Keep in mind that last part. When she asked them how they liked the food thus far, she said, “The girl’s like, ‘This is nasty. I don’t want it.’” However, she noticed half of the girl’s cheeseburger was eaten, and all of the fries.
The server asked the girl if she wanted something different to eat, and she said she would like the same pasta dish as the person she was eating with. She went on to say, “She’s like, ‘Yeah, I want a shrimp pasta, the one he has.’” She then brought the pasta out to the girl and let her eat her food.
When she returned to ask the woman if the food was okay, the man told her that he now didn’t like his food. The game of back-and-forth continued like this, with the couple allegedly “not liking” their food and the server having to remove the food from their bill.
The server decided to go to her manager after the couple ordered multiple plates, ate mostly everything, and claimed the food wasn’t to their liking. She said that her manager said “OK” and took all of the food off the bill. The server then went on to say, “This is not a buffet, by the way. We don’t work at a buffet.”
The server asked other TikTokers, “Are you joking? They paid $20 in total, and they ate seven different meals. And I’m just wondering, is that normal? Do you guys do that too?” She also claims that this happens a lot at the restaurant where she works. Luckily, most commenters agreed with the server on this one: “Restaurants aren’t tasting menus.” Another suggested, “We have to stop allowing people to get away with stuff like that.”
Unfortunately, far too people have proper restaurant etiquette and too many restaurants are set on pleasing even the most unpleasant customer. This means that, in many cases, they will go out of their way to ensure that diners are always pleased with their experience, even if it means incurring a financial loss on a few plates.
With people knowing that they can get away with this behavior and be comped for food with a simple lie, events like these will likely continue to happen in restaurants.
