TikTokers would do anything to get attention online. Sometimes they do challenges; other times they cause a ruckus in public. This California TikToker, though, decided to hire a Tom Cruise impersonator for himself, a certainly very weird idea. The two-minute video uploaded to the internet showed the California TikToker welcoming the fake Tom Cruise into his house. The impersonator immediately went into character, chirping out very cheesy lines. The video then skipped to them inside the California TikToker’s house, where the fake Tom Cruise stood awkwardly in the middle of the room. The TikToker then gave him the money to pay for renting the impersonator.
Things went very awkward very quickly, though. While the California TikToker was sitting down on his sofa, the impersonator continued delivering line after line while staying in his Tom Cruise persona. At one point, you could even see the fake Tom Cruise jumping on the bed. In another scene, the California TikToker and the fake Tom Cruise were sitting together. The two continued trying to have a conversation, but you could feel the awkwardness bleeding through the screen.
Well, despite what you might think about the video, it did shockingly well, with the California TikToker earning over three million views. Commenters were very confused about why anybody would do this. “Sharing the awkwardness with your audience,” one Redditor said.
This wasn’t the first time the California TikToker hired professionals for himself. Previously, he even hired a violinist, a motivational speaker, and even a Santa. All of the videos did quite well, with the motivational speaker getting over 17 million views. “Hire multiple impersonators at the same time and make them interact,” one commenter wrote.
Some users found it funny how the fake Tom Cruise tried his best to remain in character. However, as things progressed, he eventually seemed confused about what the California TikToker wanted from him in the first place. “So what do you want from me?” one commenter wrote, quoting what the impersonator said in the video. Another said, “To be fair, what does anyone want from a Tom Cruise impersonator?”
Other commenters wondered where exactly the California TikToker even found these people in the first place. All of the “guests” the TikToker had hired were very eclectic and unique. “How far are these people traveling to see you? They can’t all be in your area,” one commenter said. Another wrote, “Guessing these people aren’t turning down whatever offers they can get.”
