I cannot imagine being apart from my cats, not knowing where they are. The might not be human, but they’re as close to children as I’m going to get right now. So, I have to say that I teared up when I saw this video of a California trans man finding his cat after having lost him shortly after getting top surgery. Sure, I don’t necessarily agree with how he cared for his cat, but it’s very clear that the man loves his furry friend and will do anything to keep him safe moving forward.
The above video shows TikToker imtransandwhat what appears to be the inside a pet rescue or a similar facility. He explains to the camera and the people working at the facility that his cat, which is implied to be an outdoor cat, always returns home. However, this time, that wasn’t the case. Unfortunately, he also just had surgery and had to wait until he was recovered enough to search for the cat, leaving it for a long time.
This prompted imtransandwhat to search far and wide for his beloved cat, Smokey, landing him at the Santa Paula Animal Rescue Center in Santa Paula, California. He gave the employees his cat’s description, and, sure enough, he was there waiting for him! Smokey’s owner was also notified that Smokey was set to be neutered the day before since he still had his testicles.
This is where the internet had a problem. Realistically, cats kept as pets should stay indoors and neutered because otherwise, the population of stray cats without homes continues to grow. One person in the comments specified this by saying, “if your cat is unfixed, not chipped and no collar they shouldn’t be outside ??? cats shouldn’t be outside to begin with. glad you found your baby but there’s no excuse for being this irresponsible.“
Just before the video ends, you can hear imtransandwhat talking with the employee about neutering the animal, implying that it would be done soon. I’m glad that Smokey was found safe and sound in the hands of people who wanted to make sure he went home.
