An FBI agent who publicly opposed President Donald Trump’s administration in the past has been arrested and charged. The California native, Jonathan Buma, was taken into custody on March 17, 2025.
Buma has worked with the FBI for 15 years. During the first Trump administration, the suspect had publicly voiced concern about how the president’s administration handled certain classified information at the time. Now, the former agent is accused of a similar crime. Buma was booked on charges relating to the alleged unauthorized disclosure of confidential information.
Investigation into Buma allegedly began as far back as 2023, when authorities raided his home. According to the charging documents, the ex-agent leaked classified information from the FBI’s internal network during the process of writing a book about his career with the Bureau.
He had shared a draft of the book with external parties over email. In his memoir, Buma allegedly dives into details about the bureau’s investigations into a foreign country’s weapons of mass destruction program.
As the charging documents state, Buma “…printed approximately 130 files from the FBI’s internal network… some of which were clearly marked with warnings that made clear that the information was to be protected.”
The public have expressed various opinions regarding the FBI’s agent’s arrest. Some are in Buma’s support, saying that his arrest is just a vengeful act for speaking out against Trump.
“You people are as sick as Trump. Anyone that he feels is against him, he will Trump charges on them. There are no law or rules anymore. Just the Trump revenge,” one person said.
“The new American Oligarchy at work. We’re going to find out what a truly “weaponized” Justice Department looks like,” this user warned. “America has never produced a more pathetic and gullible citizen than that of the MAGAT RAT TRAITORS.”
On the other hand, other members of the public believe that Buma’s arrest is justified and he is just one of the many FBI agents who need to be sanctioned.
“I’m sure there are plenty more in the Bureau that need to go. These are Democrat holdovers that like to cause trouble,” one person said.
“Here is karma doing its thing again. What goes around certainly comes around. His days were numbered. He was in it so deep he didn’t know which way was up,” another person added.
After Buma was taken into custody, he had a preliminary hearing and was subsequently released from detention. As reported by ABC News, the FBI agent has yet to enter a plea regarding the charges filed against him.
