A woman in San Leandro, California, was stopped at a Walmart gate after being accused of stealing. She decided to record this incident and even admitted to adding Tipe Pods to a container she deemed not to be “all the way filled up.” Then, she uploaded the clip online, believing the internet would be on her side, which was not the case.
The woman’s name, according to her TikTok, is Mary Jane. She posted the whole incident in two parts. The first clip shows her admitting to adding Tide Pods to the container. Then, the second clip shows her verbally fighting with an undercover floor walker. The latter gained traction, garnering 1.6 million views, 264,000 likes, and close to 5,000 comments.
The first clip starts with the California woman recording the floor walker, her cart full of groceries, and even what appears to be a security guard. According to what the video shows, Mary Jane and the floor walker had already discussed the Tide Pod situation. This is because the undercover lady was telling her that the containers “never come full.”
The argument continued, with the video showing Mary Jane repeatedly misgendering the floor walker by calling her “sir.” She then asked the people blocking her way out to count the number of Tide Pods inside the container. She was told that’s not how it works, and she continued to complain, saying that she was “not stealing.”
Eventually, halfway through the first clip, Mary Jane clearly stated what she had done, providing the necessary context for the back and forth that followed.
“These Tide Pods were not all the way filled up, so I corrected it. Somebody else must have stolen them,” the California woman said. “And I’m being pulled over at the door.”
Confrontation Uploaded, Reactions
The undercover floor walker was shown not paying attention to Mary Jane and continued to report on what was going on. In the second clip, both women continued to engage in an increasingly heated argument. Expletives were exchanged, the floor walker laughed in Mary Jane’s face, and the cart didn’t move an inch.
From what was shown in the videos, it is unclear whether Mary Jane faced any legal troubles.
The video sparked many reactions online.
Some supported the California woman, with a user saying, “Leave her alone, sir,” and another one adding, “I’m not doing all this for a store’s products.” However, the rest of the commenters were baffled that Mary Jane decided to record her own admission and post it online.
One commenter asked, “You actually uploaded this?” Some users commented on how the floor walker matched Mary Jane’s energy during the discussion, with one saying, “That gentlewoman ate you up sista idk.” Other viewers pointed out how the internet reacted in a totally different way from what Mary Jane was expecting, with one saying, “You didn’t get the reaction you wanted in the comment section.”
With both videos continuing to generate views, it is clear that the confrontation resonated with many viewers. Some appeared to have connected with the energy of the floor walker and even empathized with her doing her job. Others seemed to be engaging with the story because Mary Jane was shown admitting to what Walmart deems to be unacceptable.
In her most recent TikTok, Mary Jane revealed that she is planning to upload more parts of the interaction. It appears this won’t be the last time we’ll be hearing about the Tide Pod container incident.
