California Woman Has Empathy for Coco Robot Struggling to Cross Busy Street, ‘I Thought I Was Going to Witness a Murder’

Even the robot deserves to be treated well

Everyone having a little empathy would make the world a better place. Wishing other people well and hoping that they receive the things they want most out of life shows our growth as humans. One woman took her empathy to the next level when she spotted a Coco delivery robot outside her home in Los Angeles, California. The little robot’s struggle to cross a busy street had her worried for its well-being.

Alyssa (@grumblinggrowth) shared her TikTok video of a little Coco delivery robot. These robots are, essentially, little red grocery baskets on wheels. These delivery robots deliver food to locals from restaurants. They are remotely piloted. Coco robots tend to stay on the sidewalks but may have to cross a street or two at times. When Alyssa noticed one struggling to cross a busy street outside her home, she was clearly distressed.

In the video, you can hear Alyssa proclaim, “Oh my god, don’t hit Coco! Coco just wants to cross the street.” She continues to scream “Oh my god!” and “Let him cross!” as the robot struggles to cross the street, but multiple vehicles stop it. The Coco robot backs up and tries again. Alyssa says, “Oh my god, he’s trying again” as Coco nearly runs straight into a blue car that never even stops.

In the end, we see Coco evade a couple vehicles and the robot makes it safely to the next sidewalk. Alyssa states, “Look at him go! This is the inspiration for Grand Theft Auto.” The little robot continues off down the sidewalk like the fiasco never happened.

Alyssa was sure that she was going to “witness a murder” and stated this video is “proof that humans will bond with anything.” I have to admit, at one point, I was sitting tensely and cheering that little robot across the street! A commenter stated on Alyssa’s video, “I judge people’s character on how they treat these little guys.” It wouldn’t be the first time somebody took their anger out on a robot. Remember the tale of HitchBOT? Remember how a bunch of Philadelphians beat it to death? Yeah, won’t soon forget that one.
