A woman on TikTok has gone viral after sharing an emotional account of being removed from a film screening in North Hollywood, California, despite allegedly facing a medical emergency related to her Type 1 diabetes.
In a tearful video posted earlier this week, the woman explained that she and her boyfriend attended a SAG-hosted screening of Song Song Blue at the Wolf Theatre inside the Saban Media Center. According to her account, she began experiencing dangerously low blood sugar levels (recording a reading of 61, well below the normal threshold of 80) just as the post-film Q&A was beginning.
Realizing she had no glucose on hand, she sent her boyfriend to a nearby shop to grab something sugary. He returned minutes later with a Coke and a pack of Skittles. But before she could stabilize her blood sugar, security personnel reportedly intervened.
“Within two minutes we were both kicked out of the theatre because there was no food or drink allowed,” she said in the video. “We tried to explain to the security guard that I needed the sugar because I’m a Type 1 diabetic and it was an emergency situation.”
The woman claims that the security staff ignored her pleas, even as she and her boyfriend attempted to clarify that this was a medical necessity. She added that the scene unfolded in front of the entire audience during the Q&A with the film’s director and cast.
“Something like this has never happened to me before,” she said. “I understand that they have rules about no food or drink, but I thought—naively—that when explaining the emergency, they would understand.”
She clarified that the security team was not hired by SAG-AFTRA or the filmmakers, but by the venue itself. She expressed gratitude to her boyfriend and a nearby business, Broxy (or Brooksie) in North Hollywood, for providing the sugar that ultimately helped stabilize her condition.
The incident has sparked conversation about disability awareness and accessibility at public events, particularly for those with chronic medical conditions. Many commenters voiced support for the woman and criticized the theatre’s response, calling for better training among event staff. One TikTok user wrote:
“As a daughter who’s mom is diabetic, this boils my blood so bad. I’m so sorry this happened to you sweetie, sugar is DEFINITELY a medical item 100%! Prayers for you sweetie.”
As of now, neither SAG-AFTRA nor the Saban Media Center has publicly commented on the incident.
