Many shops, especially after the pandemic broke out, changed their hours. They wouldn’t be open late at night or some even stopped offering 24/7 services. You’ve probably heard at least one person mention they wish they could go grocery shopping at Walmart all hours of the night. That’s just not a universal thing anymore. So, when a California woman stumbled across a nail salon open late in Beverly Hills, she was ecstatic. However, that excitement quickly wore off when she was slapped with an unexpected bill.
Kia J. Brooks (@kiajbrooks on TikTok) shared the video. The caption read, “When you stumble upon a 10pm nail salon in Beverly Hills and forget to ask prices in the excitement!!” In the video, you hear a shocked Kia ask, “How much is it, ma’am?” while pointing the camera on a nail tech, who bursts out laughing and turns away from the screen. She then turns to the tech who did her nail set, and asks, “How much is it, Miss Karina?” to which she responds, “$2,065.”
Kia warns others, “Don’t get too hyped about after hours nail services without asking the price!” That’s a lesson learned. According to comments from others, it is typical to see overpriced services in and around Beverly Hills.
Of course, commenters were shocked that she would be left with a bill that high. One commenter was visibly irritated by the fact a business would charge so much without telling a customer upfront. They said, “When something that is normally $100-$200 and you are charging over $2,000. You as a BUSINESS, have a RESPONSIBILITY AS A DECENT BUSINESS to MAKE SURE that your customers ARE AWARE that the prices are that INSANELY expensive. ESPECIALLY WHEN YOUR WEBSITE DOESN’T SHOW ‘after hours pricing.’” Of course, no business in Beverly Hills is likely considered ‘normal pricing’ that we could afford.
Others joked by adding, “You can go ahead and take the polish off.” Another comment went further with, “Would’ve told them ‘just call the police, I apologize’.” And the best one of all: “I would’ve been smiling in my mug shot.” What do you even begin to do in a situation like that? Maybe she owes the nail salon an IOU? Sure, Kia learns her lesson but a business should be more responsible, too.
