In Los Angeles, California, a group of women who were coming home from their girls’ outing one night were involved in a physical confrontation with a stranger, which left one of them seriously injured. The incident happened in Hollywood on Thursday, April 2, and has now gone viral on TikTok, with the videos pulling in over a million views combined.
According to information shared by the group on a GoFundMe page they started for their injured friend, the women were approached by a man and his friend who wanted to ask one of the women for her contact details. When that woman declined, the men first “proceeded to follow and verbally taunt” the group before one of them then started “physically attacking” the women.
In one of the videos they shared, the man who had asked for their friend’s contact stood off to the side, while his friend was seen fighting with two of the girls. The women claimed that while they were trying to protect their friend, another woman was shoved to the ground. The fall resulted in a severely fractured wrist.
What Happened After the Incident
Police were later called to the scene, but the man who carried out the assault reportedly fled before authorities arrived. The woman who was injured was later taken to the emergency room, and according to the fundraiser page, her injuries have significantly impacted her daily life. It was reported that doctors told her she may be unable to return to work as a bartender/server for at least 2 months while her wrist heals.
“We have no idea what the cost of the medical care will be, as [the hospital] told her it can take up to 45 days to receive the bills,” the friends wrote in the fundraiser. “So far she has had to go to the ER twice for X Rays, assessments, and the procedure of popping her radius wrist bone back into place.” They also added that there is a possibility she may even need surgery.
What Netizens Are Saying About the Incident in California
The videos have since sparked strong reactions on TikTok, with many people in the comments expressing concern for the women’s safety. “This is so horrifying,” one netizen wrote. Another said, “What kind of world do we live in nowadays that we can’t even walk down a dark alley without worrying or gripping our keys.” A third commented, “Sending you all a 🫂. Nobody should live like this… 💔,” while a fourth added, “Scary world to be a woman.”
Some women also admitted the incident reflected their own fears. “That’s why I’m soooo afraid to be mean to a stranger, I just smile and speak nicely because I am so paranoid,” one person shared. Someone else chimed in, “I just give them and block them a few days later. I can’t risk it.”
As of the time of writing, the GoFundMe has raised around $1,074 toward its $1,300 target.
