California actor Jerry O’Connell has built a whole second act out of being refreshingly unfiltered, but his newest overshare is testing exactly how much fans want to know about his marriage. The 52-year-old sat down for a candid podcast chat this week and steered the conversation straight toward his wife, Star Trek: Strange New Worlds star Rebecca Romijn, and one very personal household detail. The subject of the day was deodorant, and O’Connell did not hold back.
O’Connell, who has been married to Romijn since 2007, explained that his wife prefers a natural approach to her hygiene. Rather than a standard antiperspirant, she reaches for crystal deodorant, a mineral-salt product marketed as a chemical-free way to block odor.
Speaking on a Monday episode of the Thanks Dad with Ego Nwodim podcast, O’Connell offered a public service announcement of sorts about the trendy product. “And I’m here to tell everyone, it doesn’t work. The crystals under the arms doesn’t work,” he said of his wife’s pick.
Then came the twist that turned a simple hygiene story into a viral talker. Far from being bothered by the result, the actor admitted he has grown oddly fond of it. “Now I don’t mind the way my wife, it doesn’t offend me. I actually, this is gonna get a little dirty, I kind of like it when I can smell my wife’s body odor,” he confessed.
Inside Jerry O’Connell and Rebecca Romijn’s Long Hollywood Marriage
O’Connell then tried to explain the strangely sweet logic behind the comment, framing it as proof of life and closeness. “It’s kind of like, yeah, she’s alive, we’re alive, we’re living. It’s, like, a little kicking and like, it’s a little funky town,” he added.
The clip quickly made the rounds on social media, where reactions landed all over the map. Some found the overshare oddly charming. “Marriage goals: loving the funk,” wrote one user. Another joked about the fallout at home, posting, “Dinner tonight’s gonna be fun.” One simply responded to the whole thing with, “Jesus Christ be with you.”
Others were far less impressed. “is this suppose to be funny,” one commenter asked, while another sighed, “He gets worse every interview.” A third offered the actor some unsolicited advice: “Ummm sometimes saying less is more.” At least one fan kept it light, though, noting, “Jerry still looks good.“
The couple will mark their 19th wedding anniversary on July 14, and they share 17-year-old twin daughters, Dolly and Charlie. Their romance began in 2004, the same year Romijn’s first marriage to Full House star John Stamos ended. Stamos spent years making peace with the split, even taking a swing at Romijn in his 2023 memoir, but the former rivals are said to have finally cleared the air at Howie Mandel’s birthday party last November.
O’Connell stays busy on screen, with a turn as a goofy vice principal in the Tubi family comedy Summer’s Last Resort landing this week. Romijn, meanwhile, recently returned as Mystique in Avengers: Doomsday and is wrapping her run as Number One in the final season of Star Trek: Strange New Worlds.
