Thanks to the leakers, data miners, and insiders ahead of their time, we know exactly what Call of Duty games are coming next in the upcoming years. First, we have the 2025 sequel to Black Ops 2, and in 2026, studio Infinity Ward has to follow the shallow story of the Bravo-6’s rebooted narrative. However, Call of Duty 2026 and Infinity Ward seem to be cursed by a past mistake that’s been haunting the franchise all the way from 2013.
Let me take you to 13 years ago, when Call of Duty is on a thrive ride, and Black Ops 2 is here to nail it. It’s fair to say that Black Ops 2 kept all the fans happy with a thrilling Campaign that had several endings, a different type of Multiplayer with pick-10 loadout optimization and perfect maps, and a Zombies mode that’s known to be one of the best in the series for its maps and innovation; no, no, not Tranzit, of course.
Then after the golden age of Call of Duty with the Black Ops and Modern Warfare series, a new entry arrives. Call of Duty: Ghosts was announced just when Team Green launched its new console, Xbox One. The game’s name misled fans for getting a game totally based on Simon “Ghost” Riley’s early life as an elite soldier, but we got something that wasn’t even a part of the MW universe at all.
Call of Duty: Ghosts has an average of 4.4 Meta audience score, which speaks volumes about how badly the game was received. The Campaign was okay. I could live with the new futuristic story that they told, but the Multiplayer and Co-Op modes were miles away from expectations.
Now, come back to 2025, when Xbox’s new console is accordingly set to release in 2026, a year when Infinity Ward will have its Call of Duty game. Xbox owns CoD now, and the new console will most likely launch with that game. So, is Ghosts Incident 2.0 incoming?
The most tragic scenario could be an actual sequel to Call of Duty: Ghosts called Ghosts 2, launching with the new Xbox console and repeating history with laser-precise accuracy. But maybe Infinity Ward has learned from it, and MW4 or Ghosts 2 will become one of the best ever — fingers crossed.
With the given state of Call of Duty right now, some fans like me would love to see a game that’s on maximum optimization rather than making history in 2025 or 2026. The community is tired of countless hackers in the Black Ops 6 lobbies, server issues, and too many bugs that have ruined the experience. So, whatever you do, IW, please keep it clean!
