After 4 years, the Black Ops stories continue with the 6th installment in the series, Call of Duty: Black Ops 6. Right after the Xbox Showcase, Call of Duty Direct gave us everything that we needed to know for now about the Black Ops 6 Campaign, Multiplayer, Zombies, story, and gameplay changes that’d be later integrated into Warzone. Here’s a deep dive into everything you need to know about Call of Duty: Black Ops 6.
Black Ops 6 Campaign
The story of the Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 Campaign takes place right after the events of Black Ops 2 flashbacks. The Cold War is over, and suspicious mistrust rises around the United States government. That’s why a number of CIA agents go rogue to figure out who they can trust to reveal the truth with.
Troy Marshall, Jane Harrow, Sevati Dumas, and Felix Neumann are the new faces in the Black Ops storyline who will work alongside Frank Woods to uncover the unknown. Also, Russell Adler returns as a mysterious figure that plays a key role in the narrative.
Classic Missions Return Alongside The More Detailed Open Combat Variant
Unlike Modern Warfare 3, Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 will feature more linear missions that may or may not give you a choice on how to complete them. The operators that we’re dealing with in the Black Ops 6 Campaign are the ones that have gone rogue, and that means the classy spy missions where you need to infiltrate an area without getting noticed are on the table.
As seen in the reveal event, there’s a huge map variety on where you’ll be fighting off your enemies in the Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 campaign. Smuggling intel from a casino, fighting off enemy soldiers in a snowy military base, or even dealing with targets in a desert. Speaking of which, that reminds us of a returning mission-type from last year’s MW3; the infamous Open Combat Missions.
They’re not directly called the Open Combat Missions for Black Ops 6, but rather described as playing in one of the largest Campaign maps where you need to complete objectives in your way of playing. Sounds a lot like OCM for sure. However as showcased, it is way more polished and detailed than what we had with Modern Warfare 3.
Talking about the different maps of Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 Campaign, it’s fair to know that there’s an enemy variety in this 90s-themed shooter as well. So it’s not like you’ll be fighting bare-bone soldiers and most creatively snipers this time.
Woods Is Waiting In The Manor
The Manor is where you get to know more about the intel you’ve collected on every mission. Just like the Cold War, there’ll be an evidence board in the safe house to track your missions. But more importantly, there are a lot of details to discover in this area, as you’re free to roam and find out more about the past and the present story of Black Ops.
Black Ops 6 Multiplayer and Gameplay
Just like its Campaign, Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 is hitting so strong on the gameplay side of things. A revolutionary change is coming to the movement system, HUD, the return of the legendary prestige system, and more!
Omnimovement Elevates Call of Duty To The Next Level
No wonder Call of Duty has been keeping the Black Ops 6 in the oven for more than 2 years. The new Omni movement system is a true game-changer that adds a variety of new mechanics to the gameplay of Call of Duty.
First, there’s the Max Payne-style dive shooting. The diving mechanism was added to the game in MW2 two years ago, and with Black Ops 6‘s Omni movement system, you can dive in any direction, and shoot at the same time. Yessir, this includes jumping backwards as well, after which you’ll end up in a prone position, where you can rotate 360 while on the ground.
Speaking of jumping into different directions, you can even slide into any direction with the Omni movement system in Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 Campaign, Multiplayer, and even Zombies. And if a player is camping in the corners, you no longer have to reveal full body to cut them. If you walk slowly, your operator will lean outside the near wall, making things more tactical in slow-paced scenarios.
You’re Allowed To Change The HUD However You Want It
This is a feature we have in many of the mobile games, but starting with Black Ops 6, you can change the HUD to look however you like it in the settings. This means you can remove, or drag the HUD elements like the map and bullet count to the different sides of the screen.
Prestige Progression Is Back + The Theatre
One thing that made Call of Duty‘s Multiplayer a replayable game mode was the prestige system. You could grind to the max level 55, and then reset everything only to earn a prestige mark. And with Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 Multiplayer, you can do this 10 times, while there are even more rewards to grind for after you’ve hit the max prestige.
Last but not least, it’s good to know that Black Ops 6 is returning the classic Theatre option to Call of Duty! A feature that was first introduced in 2010 with Call of Duty: Black Ops 1 to allow the players to review their games and assemble gameplay clips to share.
Black Ops 6 Multiplayer Maps
There is no detailed info about the names, but it’s been officially announced that Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 Multiplayer will have 16 fresh maps at launch. This includes 12 core maps designed for 6v6 combat, and 4 strike maps for smaller engagements and fast-paced game modes.
Black Ops 6 Zombies
Yes yes yes! Round-Based Zombies is coming back with all its glory. The horrors of surviving rounds in a map full of easter eggs and details are returning to Call of Duty, as Treyarch has announced two zombie playgrounds for Black Ops 6:
- Liberty Falls
- Terminus
Liberty Falls is what we assume to be the Tranzit 2.0 with all the rumors and leaks surrounding it, while Terminus is the island that Dr Peck wanted to visit by the end of Cold War Zombies. Speaking of which, the story picks up right after the events of the Cold War, featuring Weaver, Maya, Dr. Grey – Samantha Maxis’ mother -, and Carver as the main characters of the zombie show.
That’s it for Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 and all the details revealed in the CoD Direct event so far. But there’s more to come in the upcoming months, as another Call of Duty event will be held on August 28, 2024, featuring a full gameplay breakdown of Black Ops 6 with prominent CoD streamers playing the Multiplayer.
