Black Ops 6 is no stranger to breaking records and bringing a sheer amount of profit for Activision, but as it turns out, it’s making Call of Duty the best-selling franchise of all time. Accordingly, Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 sales have helped the franchise pass a certain sales point that makes it only one step away from the Nintendo powerhouse.
According to the Washington Post, Call of Duty has passed the 500 million sales milestone with the recent launch of Black Ops 6, which marks the defeat of Tetris with 495 million sales for the second place. Pokémon, Grand Theft Auto, and even Minecraft respectively sit in the 3rd to 5th place, with only 1 rival left for Call of Duty to reach the #1 best-selling franchise of all time; and I don’t think it ever will considering the difference.
With an 879.41 million sales record, Mario stays undefeated as the top best-selling gaming franchise of all time. With Nintendo probably introducing its next handheld console in the upcoming months and the launch of the next Mario party games on that platform, it’d be much harder for CoD to beat the Italian Jumpman in this game.
Now with Call of Duty shattering records with its new 2024 entry, it’s so suspicious as to why the company doesn’t afford to have better servers for Black Ops 6 and Warzone. Netcode issues, denying the protection against AI agreement for BO6‘s voice actors, and now the practice of using AI in 2D artworks of the game are the buzz of the community these days. These are certainly not the medals of honor the second best-selling gaming franchise of all time deserves and we hope the issues are solved in the upcoming updates for BO6.
