Illinois Governor JB Pritzker has recently accused U.S. President Donald Trump of lying to working-class Americans, a remark that sparked major backlash against him. The Illinois governor has a contentious history with the President, having become one of his most outspoken critics. He is often praised or criticized specifically for this position.
Pritzker recently shared a short clip on X in which he can be seen claiming that Trump is trying to fool working people into believing that he is fighting for them. He explicitly calls Trump a liar, saying that the Republican Party “doubles down on lies.” He also framed the political divide not as Democrats vs. Republicans, but as “Team Fight and Team Caves.”
While the two politicians have had a contentious relationship since at least 2018, it has deteriorated further in recent years. Criticism escalated in 2025, especially after Trump suggested sending National Guard troops to Chicago to crack down on crime.
JB Pritzker Criticized By Trump Supporters
Pritzker’s strong stance against Trump did not earn him many compliments on X, however, as the platform saw multiple users criticize him. One of them wrote: “You are not running against Trump. You are, however, planning a color revolution, aren’t you?”
Some people online seemingly interpreted his words as treasonous, writing: “Says the modern-day Guy Fawkes… Leading a conspiracy and plotting to overthrow the government and throwing out our Constitution.” At no point, however, did Pritzker mention a revolution or changing the Constitution in the clip.
Others made fun of how often the Illinois governor talked about Trump: “Can you actually talk without mentioning Trump?” Some folks even argued that the true liar was the Democrat: “Pritzker is a habitual liar and a conman. He has destroyed Illinois with high taxes and has made our state a sanctuary for criminals and illegals.”
Another individual added: “Everything out of JB’s mouth is projection, taxes, and more taxes. Twisted truth and propaganda. Trump zeroed out taxes on tips & overtime for millions of servers, bartenders, and tradesmen while every Democrat in Congress voted no.”
Over on Instagram, however, Pritzker received some support, with one commenter expressing their agreement with the Illinois governor, writing, “I totally agree with you 👍 💯”
The backlash highlights how Pritzker’s frequent criticism of Trump continues to divide social media users, particularly those who support the President’s agenda.
