In true RPG faction, Dragon Age: The Veilguard gives players a lot of agency to customize their experience as they see fit. From changing UI elements to make the journey more immersive to having an extensive character creator and even one of the largest skill trees in modern RPGs, you can really create the character you want. While there is a lot of freedom in these choices, can you also change your faction and class in Dragon Age: The Veilguard, or are you stuck with your choice for the rest of the game?

Is It Possible to Change Your Class in Dragon Age: The Veilguard?

In short, no. You can’t change your class in Dragon Age: The Veilguard. This might be a shocker for many players, especially coming from an era where there are other RPGs that let you swap from one class to another with ease. However, it isn’t possible in BioWare’s latest large-scale game. This might be a deal-breaker for many, but if you’re having trouble with choosing the right class, I recommend playing through the tutorial, which isn’t long, until you get the hang of either the Warrior, Mage, or Rogue.

Fortunately, you can change your specialization. It might not be the same as swapping from Warrior to Rogue, but it is nice to have the option to switch a class playstyle mid-game. Assuming you don’t like your first specialization, all you must do is head to the skill menu and swap everything. In a way, this is a great choice, especially since the skill tree is so extensive, so you can experiment as much as you want.

Unfortunately, it is the same story. You can’t change factions in Dragon Age: The Veilguard. This makes a bit more sense, especially since a faction choice is ingrained in the game’s story. Right off the bat, you’ll get many different dialogues depending on what you choose. And, while factions have certain gameplay effects, it is better to see them as a roleplaying aspect rather than something meta, even if some have a few powerful passives.

In this case, restarting your game might not be the greatest idea because some faction interactions don’t happen until you’re a few hours in. So, my only recommendation here is to take your time reading each faction’s description or head to the franchise’s Wiki to learn more before picking something.

Ultimately, the game provides players with a generous level of customization, so these two options aren’t too bad if they can’t be changed. While not being able to change classes is strange, you can at least try it during the tutorial. It should last a bit less than an hour if you rush it, giving you enough time to learn the ropes of one of the three starting classes.
