Counter-Strike is arguably one of the most well-known first-person shooters out there. It’s been dominating charts and keeping players at esports tournaments at the edge of their seats for about 24 years, and it finally got its well-deserved sequel. Counter-Strike 2 is the ultimate version of its predecessor and will no doubt be dominating the first-person shooter sphere again soon. But, can you still play CS:GO? Considering this, we wanted to let you know if CS:GO is playable after Counter-Strike 2 releases below.

Is CS:GO Still Playable After The Release Of CS2?

No, CS: GO will not be playable anymore after the release of CS2. However, that isn’t because the base game will be locked or anything like that. Instead, when you go to the Steam page for Counter-Strike, if it is already in your library and installed, will ask you to complete an update which will turn the game into Counter-Strike 2.

If you do not already have the game and are going to install it for the first time, then when you go to the Counter-Strike: Global Offensive page, you will see that all verbiage has changed to Counter-Strike 2. Essentially, the base game has evolved and become its sequel, erasing the original as a whole and replacing it with something better. This is a completely free update, so don’t expect to have to pay for anything just to play the newest version of a game that has always been free to play.

However, that still begs one question from a wide variety of players. Does the upgrade from Counter-Strike: Global Offensive to Counter-Strike 2 mean that all of the things that they worked so hard to get will be available to use in the new version?

Are Cosmetics And Progression Transferred From CS:GO To CS2?

Fortunately, you won’t need to worry about your progress or any of the items that you earned as everything transfers over seamlessly. Of course, this version of the game will be improved in just about every way from graphics to gameplay. This means that your favorite maps, weapons, cosmetics, and more will be available to you with an all-new light shining on them.

Again, the original version of the game will no longer be playable, though the current version, Counter-Strike 2 is a more improved version of the former filled with everything you remember doing.
