Candace Cameron Bure has a reputation for speaking her mind on social media. The Full House actress has no qualms about sharing her faith and opinions with her fans, even though it tends to divide her followers. Most recently, the actress took to her Instagram account to share a video of herself speaking out about the 2024 Olympics. Cameron Bure revealed she was disappointed with the Paris opening ceremony for mocking Christianity.
Although Candace Cameron Bure claimed she didn’t want to speak publicly about the Olympics controversy, she ultimately decided that it felt “important” that she share her message. The actress opted to share her thoughts after many fans were outraged by what appeared to be a depiction of the Last Supper at the event.
Candace Cameron Bure Sparks Debate After Speaking Out About Olympics Controversy
“It felt too important not to [speak up] and I love the Olympic Games, I love them,” she said in her Instagram video. “To watch such an incredible event that’s going to take place over the next two weeks and see the opening ceremonies complexly blasphemed and mock the Christian faith with their interpretation of the Last Supper was disgusting,” she continued. “I still don’t see how that relates to unifying the world through competitive sports and acceptable for children to watch.”
Many of Cameron Bure’s fans agreed with her words and thanked her for sharing her opinion and faith with the world. However, others did not agree with the actress’ comments.
“This reaction is so disappointing. My heart breaks,” one person commented. “The Olympics rooted in Greek history. Open your eyes and learn about others rather than passing judgement,” another stated. “You are offended by what you don’t understand,” another comment read. “This opening may have not been to your taste but was a reflection of history and zero to do with your religion,” a fourth social media user quipped.
This isn’t the first time that Candace Cameron Bure has sparked a divide with her thoughts about her faith. However, she certainly wasn’t the only person to speak out about the controversial Olympic opening ceremony.
