Capcom has finally pulled the emergency Mega Man lever, and after years of ‘maybe someday’ interviews and teases, the Blue Bomber is actually — really — back. Not in a merchandise form either, but as an actual game: a brand-new platformer called Mega Man: Dual Override. The game is slated to launch in 2027, for the series’ 40th anniversary, for PS5, PS4, Xbox Series X, Xbox One, Switch, and Switch 2, as well as PC via Steam.

The reveal trailer from The Game Awards 2025 still comes with classic energy. Mega Man slides, jumps around, and charges his Buster at machine armies waiting to get obliterated. Capcom simply describes Mega Man Dual Override as a return to the series’ crunchy action, across a ‘new array of futuristic frontiers.’ The Japanese announcement on X echoes the same hype, promising fans a look at how ‘[Mega Man] evolves that corresponds to the new 12th numbered installment.’

While it has yet to detail story beats or the secret behind the ‘Dual Override’ name, it might hint at dual combat modes, tag-style switching, or a two-layered power-up system. After all, Mega Man 11 introduced the Double Gear mechanic back in 2018, so another twist to modernize the series is to be expected.

Recently, the company announced plans to elevate Mega Man, Devil May Cry, and Ace Attorney into ‘core IPs’ alongside Monster Hunter and Street Fighter. In a very ironic yet on-brand moment, however, the newly announced official website, capcom-games.com/megaman/do/, instead redirects to a 404 page, at the time of writing.

It’ll likely go live once Capcom finishes resuscitating its mascot from his long, half-dead limbo. For now though, you can check the Robot Master Design fan contest page instead.

After drowning in rereleases for years, Mega Man fans can finally relax thanks to Dual Override. The Blue Bomber is powering back up, and his new entry is aiming for that sweet spot between old-school charm and modern shine. 2027 definitely can’t arrive soon enough for fans of platformer shooters.
