Marvel’s new Captain America series is pitting the stars and striped hero against some tough demons. Naturally, the Avenger turns to Doctor Strange, an expert in the hellish, to take on these foes. However, the current Sorcerer Supreme is a bit busy dealing with his own demons and must aid the hero in another way. Enter the Doctor Strange living doll. Luckily, Steve Rogers is no stranger to this rather unsettling version of Strange, having teamed up with the doll just a few issues ago. Still, seeing Captain America converse with a Doctor Strange doll is rather creepy.
Captain America Plays With Dolls
This new Captain America series finds the titular hero taking on a new demonic villain. In the fourth issue, Steve Rogers barely managed to escape a bombastic confrontation with the new foe. Now, in this week’s Captain America #5, the hero is looking for some aid in his new fight. The obvious choice for help is the Master of Mysticism himself, Doctor Strange. However, the Sorcerer Supreme is dealing with his own problems and cannot get to the hero. So, he sends the next best thing, a living doll version of himself.
The Avenger is no stranger to this form of the Sorcerer Supreme. In Captain America #3, the hero had to utilize the doll’s help in his adventures. Unfortunately, the living doll is not exactly a powerful tool for use in battle. In fact, the puppet has no powers of its own. Still, it does allow Captain America to converse with Doctor Strange instantaneously. This has helped Rogers identify the demon he is currently facing.
The Adventures Of Steve Rogers
This current run of Captain America comes from writer J. Michael Straczynski and artist Lan Medina. It weaves through time to show a modern-day adventure with connections to Steve Roger’s pre-serum days. This new story has brought forth a new enemy for the Avenger to take on, known as the Emissary. This enemy, also known as Henry Cavenaugh, is a disciple of the demon known as Asmoday. This new threat wants to put an end to anyone who will help make the world a better place. Of course, Steve Rogers is a big part of making the world a better place.
Captain America #5 is on sale now.
