Carrie Underwood is dividing fans with her decision to perform at Donald Trump’s Presidential inauguration next week. The American Idol alum has become one of the biggest names in country music over the years. However, she appears to be making her political views clear when her decision to sing America The Beautiful at the event. Of course, fans have strong opinions about the singer choosing to support Trump as he’s sworn in for his second go around as President.

The country music fan-favorite has polarized fans with the decision. Some are praising her for being brave enough to show her love for her country. Meanwhile, others believe that her affiliation with Donald Trump is enough to stop listening to her music.

“I love our country and am honored to have been asked to sing at the Inauguration and to be a small part of this historic event. I am humbled to answer the call at a time when we must all come together in the spirit of unity and looking to the future,’ she said in a statement to USA Today on Monday.

Underwood will perform the song along with The Armed Forces Chorus and The United States Naval Academy Glee Club. The performance will come just after Trump takes his presidential oath.

Some fans were surprised that Carrie decided to publicly support Trump. She has mostly stayed quiet about politics during her career. However, other entertainers such as Jason Aldeen and Kid Rock have supported Trump throughout his political runs.

Back in 2019, Underwood revealed exactly why she never makes her own political views known to the public. She told The Guardian that she felt that it was important for her to stay out of politics because “nobody wins” when they share their opinions with the world.

Carrie has not confirmed whether or not she’s officially a Trump supporter. However, fans are taking her decision to perform at the inauguration to mean she’s part of the MAGA community. While some have rejoiced in the news, others have decided to cancel the star. Talk of boycotting her music has even been seen online.

“People being surprised that Carrie Underwood is a Trump supporter is wild. Like girl. The signs were all there,” one person wrote via X.

“She’s a grown woman. She understands the consequences of this. If she gets canceled, she’s fully aware of the risk,” another stated.

“Sad thing is, I used to love her music and her style, but ever since I found out she was a Trump lover, Carrie Underwood is no longer allowed in this house for even a second,” a third comment read.

“It’s a free country. She can perform wherever she wants,” another defended the singer.

Carrie Underwood’s Husband, Mike Fisher, Has Also Sparked Controversy

Meanwhile, Underwood’s husband, Mike Fisher, has been more open about his political views (via The Daily Beast). The retired NHL star previously shared a social media post that revealed he stood with contentious NFL quarterback Aaron Rodgers. In the past, Rodgers has spoken out about being an anti-vaxer and being close with controversial political figures such as Robert F. Kennedy Jr.

After Fisher’s post, he took heat from fans online. Now, it seems that his famous wife is following suit.

It’s unclear if Carrie Underwood’s inauguration decision will help or hurt her career. However, she doesn’t appear to be too worried about the situation.
